This LEED Silver certified project explores the concept of “protection” by virtually extending the station’s presence into the surrounding context. The new facility includes a 54,000 sf police station, a 8,800 sf vehicle maintenance facility, below-grade parking, a car wash, and a fueling station.

LACC Science & Technology Building - Los Angeles, CA

Exemplary integration of public transportation

The Los Angeles City College Science & Technology Building was awarded LEED-NC Silver. It is a $38 million, 85,000 sq.ft. building with 25 new classrooms and four lecture halls. It also boasts 36 private offices, 30 open-area workstations and two new computer labs.

LEED Silver certification and photovoltaics for the campus were the primary goals for this project. Nathan Krantz led the LEED process from conception through early construction, managing the LEED-NC process, the energy modeling, and the overall LEED certification.

Pomona and Sontag Halls - Claremont, CA

Sustainability feature highlights:

2,000 gallon solar hot water system to provide 80% of the building’s hot water
80kW rooftop photovoltaic system to offset 14% of building energy needs
50% energy savings with features including: operable window/mechanical/natural ventilation controls, high-efficiency appliances, and LED lighting
36% water savings with high-efficiency fixtures, landscape design, and irrigation
Rooftop garden and storm water management system, with a detention basin to recharge the aquifer, providing a 100% decrease in runoff
20% recycled material
30% regionally produced construction material

This $53 million project, located in Claremont, California, was awarded the prestigious LEED-NC Platinum Certification. The Pomona and Sontag residence halls house approximately 150 students and feature 170 subterranean parking spaces. Combined, the buildings total 78,000 sq.ft., with both three- and six-bedroom suites on a 4.3-acre site.
